North Head – South Head – The Heads
North head is a large slab of land. High sandstone cliffs and bushland with many habitats. Beautiful heathland full of wildflowers. Sand dune and hanging swamps which feed really pure waterways. The area is popular with tourists, nature lovers and the suicidal.
From North head you can look up and down the coast. Animals abound and the view into the harbour and South head is awesome.
Then there is looking back at The Heads from places I paint in Mosman and other vantage points such as the lesser internal harbour heads. Middle, Dobroyd and Bradleys. I love to paint the ferries going to and from the city. The Heads are the gates to Sydney and protect the harbour and its inhabitants.
